Either all the contenders are allowed to finish or they should have come back the next day for hole 18. If they were going to let the others complete it they needed to do the same for the last group.
that's exactly why Rory wanted to tee off on 18. Once the horn is blown, the player has the option of finishing the hole that day, or the next. So, Rory teeing off was all that was needed to give him and his playing partner the option of finishing the hole. It was a courtesy so that he had the decision.

Making Rickie and Phil wait for the 2nd shot was a bad call by the PGA officials. They should've let Phil and Rickie decide among themselves. Chances are, it doesn't matter anyway. But, who knows.

Rory was a few feet from hitting his driver in the water and making things interesting. And, Phil was a foot or so from dropping the eagle chip to tie things. The only issue here is that the officials made the call and didn't let Phil and Rickie make the call.

I think when Rory sank the birdie on 17 and took a two stroke lead, that the tournament had been won. I know that strange things can happen on the last hole of a major, but their was only about a 5% chance of Rory not winning in regulation after the he left the 17th green. Had the lead only have been one, or had their been a tie, I wonder what would have happened. I bet Rory may have waited until Monday morning, and perhaps Rickie and Phil would have done the same.
