I ask because I frequent a place where tons of people get their good comped for the most ridiculous shite. I was thinking it has to suck to do that if the margins are so small.

Small price to pay in hopes of retaining loyalty and avoiding bad publicity. (Urbanspoon & Yelp reviews, word of mouth, etc)
