I don't understand the 30 years thing. It could just as easily be 10, or 20.
It's just rumor at this point, so hopefully it is less than 30 years. I would imagine that their Superman is close to 30 and their Batman is close to 40 or 45.
And they may not even articulate an actual time span in the movie. The motivation that they're giving the actors may include "He's been Batman for 30 years", but in the movie itself it could be dialogued as "Batman has been working in the shadows for years."

It looks like he has grey hair in that pic. I would say they are trying to make him look 50+.

YOU can definitively say that one didn't affect the other. That's the only point when it comes to the Smallville-SR connection.
common sense plays a very large factor into this. if you must ignore common sense, and you run solely on links and statistics, i cannot help you.
im sorry. i have failed this city.

Grecian Formula has ruined this generation. I always associated greying hair with someone in their 40's.

However, i dont believe people will watch Gotham and see a 9yr old bruce wayne and be completely confused by SvB with a 45+yr old batman on screen. these 2 things are vastly different.
My beef isn't so much with Gotham and more with Arrow/Flash. Gothams period difference is easy to write off. I'd assume the Flash on CW is going to be pretty popular, and a JL movie will most certainly have the Flash in it. I suppose you could use different iterations of Flash in the two universes. But to me at 32 years old, Barry Allen is the Flash. Just like Hal Jordan is GL. I'll admit I haven't kept up with comics much in the last 15 years, but I bet I'm more knowledgeable that most common fans that never read the comics and weren't aware that there were multiple iterations of the heroes.

im side stepping his arguments at this point. we both know he just wants to stir the pot. bringing up twitter is just laughable.
As long as you set your expectation to that, I can't really do much to help myself.
It's not my best point and it isn't fully developed, I got ahead of myself on that one.
The only reason I reference that is because 10 years ago we did not interact at the level that we do today with these properties. At least not at THIS wide a level. We certainly did with fan groups, passed around fan fiction and what not. But it's completely different now. Look how many threads are started on movie production. We did not have the access we do now. Is that true or false? Do we know more ahead of time?
If we know more ahead of time now, is it really ridiculous to say that maybe back then, confusion was easier? Or at least just not as well controlled? (Again: Can we really say definitively that Smallville and that version of Clark had nothing to do with the success of Superman Returns? I'm NOT saying the opposite, I'm saying we can't be sure. That's all.)
Note: This is not a discussion for this thread hence why I let that string kind of lie. The Twitter comment was just meant to say, "Times are different, the mass public knows more now about these films than we did then." That's it. But it was, again, taken negatively.

i can see the confusion if this happens. but from all accounts, it wont. DC wouldnt have allowed Arrow to use the Flash if they had big plans for him.
as for the different flashes, i mean Barry died in '85. He only recently came back. Wally was the main Flash for over 20 years. everyone has their versions of a character. just like many want to see John Stewart as GL now instead of Hal. basically we are assuming a hypothetical confusion.
but there have been 0 reports of Flash appearing in the movies.
eta: im 26. if youre 32, was Barry really the flash you knew? that wouldve made you 3 when he died. just curious because Wally was always the Flash i grew up on.

Audiences today have access to multiple versions of characters. I grew up with the Filmation DC cartoons, my kids had those, plus SuperFriends, plus the Timm DC cartoon universe. Kids today have all of that, plus the Brave & the Bold cartoon, Young Justice, etc.
At this point, if I asked a kid who Flash is, I wouldn't expect to predict what their answer would be.

i know. just curious, because i didnt really have all that growing up. the 90s pretty much had one person as the hero for that decade (for the most part).
i mean, my favorite speedster was Bart Allen just because the Young Justice comic was my favorite series.

In the midst of all this fighting, I'm just upset the only grey in BatFleck's hair is above his temples.
And I wholeheartedly believe Affleck/Batman will be the best thing about this movie and people will wish Superman wasn't in it.

My Dad was a fan and got me into them. The comics I read were with Barry. Barry was the character in the TV series with John Wesley Shipp. I mainly read current Superman/Batman stuff. The height of my interest was during Knighfall and Death of Superman story arcs.
I can't imagine DC not wanting Flash in the movies.

My thing is...if they're going with he's been around for a long time, why not just include the Nolan films as canon? That way you have his backstory and he's grounded, you just fill in the blanks of the years between TDKR and SvB in this and later films.
Being 15-20 years later, having the Robin incident, and whatever else they choose would naturally change Batman into the version Affleck will be portraying.

This.
And if someone tells me that Pa Kent told Clark that he should stay home while Bane held Gotham hostage for a full month I'll have an aneurism.

How about Ra's al Ghul giving everyone an acid trip. They should have paid him for that.
Posted on 8/6/14 at 6:37 pm to abellsujr
The Joker was locked up in Arkham in TDK so he could easily return. Speculation is that was what Nolan originally envisioned for the TDKR. If Batman is 50+ in the film, it stands to reason the Joker would be as well.
I understand why they're separating it but rebooting all these franchises every 5 years has already gotten old.

That MAY work, but you still have the plot hole problem. There's just too much they would have to address.
ETA: I can tell you, Nolan would also be against it.

Can you really see a superman or a wonder woman in Nolans "realistic" world he created for Batman?
Posted on 8/6/14 at 6:48 pm to The Godfather
quote:There's no way. Nolan has stated many times that Superman does not exist in his world. And if WW has been around for awhile, they will have to explain why she sat out for the Gotham showdowns. Although, The Avengers seem to stay out of each other's problems.
