i would love to see articles pointing to smallvilee for the reason or at least MINOR reason for Superman returns failure. I dont remember any outlet pointing to that. so yeah, that is evidence.
I lurked Kryptonsite back then and the only complaint the Smallville fans had about the film going it was that Welling should have had a shot at the role.
When SR came out, it was easily 60% of KS loved it, with probably 30% liking it, but finding flaws. 10% shite all over it like fanboys would do (stalker Supes, kid, choice of Lois [why not Erica Durrance]).

You are completely full of shite. And, as usual, warping reality to suit your argument.
The internet was in full gear ten years ago. Just because you hadn't discovered pre-Twitter social media doesn't mean that the rest of the world hadn't.
It's pretty simple, the amount of people using social media and twitter, on a wide, public use scale is vastly expanded from 10 years ago. More information is available now than was available then BY THE MASSES.
This isn't warping, this isn't full of shite. Simply looking at the numbers of increased social media use over the last 10 years is easy enough to find.
Let's look at one:

Not addressed at anyone in particular, but DAMN.. people argue over the most immaterial things on this board when it comes to comic-movies.
Hey at least there is something to argue about on the big screen involving comics.

this is a great, recent example. no one was really confused about the difference between smallville and superman returns.
But even Smallville, albeit different, still had the same ethos as the Superman movies, right down to John Williams' Theme in the finale.

You were right. New threads just start new arguments. I should have just bumped your thread.
It's not your fault.

Yeah but if you say anything critical of DC, people get riled, quickly.
That's his shorthand for, "I'm going to spew bullshite until people get fed up and start to call me on it."

See, again, did I even say that?

you know you stir the pot on purpose. you saw the civil discussion we were having with elprez. you really cant help yourself from saying ignorant statements to rile us up so you can point the finger that we attack statements that go against DC.
I really don't the first post was meant as both a joke and an honest comment that Superman Returns doesn't matter because it wasn't successful, that's proof of something NOT working. Is that crazy?
quote:
you are very intelligent. you know what you are trying to do and it's pretty shitty.
I'm not trying to do anything, I thought we were all past take immediate offense to anything I say, and completely whiffing on the point because people feel hurt that something can be critical.
If we aren't I apologize and I'll walk away. Simple as that.

right. Gotham will probably have similar themes as Smallville did. They both revolve around the same character, so that basically has to happen.
However, i dont believe people will watch Gotham and see a 9yr old bruce wayne and be completely confused by SvB with a 45+yr old batman on screen. these 2 things are vastly different.

This is basically ripping off The Dark Knight Returns.
I don't like it.

The masses had access to the internet. The lack of Facebook has nothing to do with your assumption that people disliked Superman Returns because it wasn't Smallville.
They didn't like it because it was a shitty movie.

Geeze...I really hope this is not true. While I think the idea of either having a trilogy with an older Batman, or allowing Batman to age within the universe is fine, to START what is essentially the beginning of The Justice League with a 50+ year old Batman is, well, a disaster waiting to happen.
FIFY.

im side stepping his arguments at this point. we both know he just wants to stir the pot. bringing up twitter is just laughable.

I don't understand the 30 years thing. It could just as easily be 10, or 20.

Not this blatant.
Even The Dark Knight Rises didn't go that far with the age and ridiculous circumstances.

I love The Dark Knight Returns. The animated flick with parts one and two is definitely a must see.

Agree. I remember watching Smallville when Sups Returns came out and I don't recall anyone being overly confused. If someone was confused, then the simple explanation of Smallville = Pre-Superman years; Returns = Superman years should have cleared it up.
If some people couldn't figure out that the TV show and the movie took place at different times in Superman's life, then those people should stick with watching Honey Boo Boo.

While I don't think it's a disaster, a 50+ JL Batman is a missed opportunity. I like that they are bringing aspects of TDKR, but tying it into the JL is a problem.

Who says he can beat Superman? Who says this is his first real challenge? Considering Robin has died, this debunks that. Who says he's "small potatoes"? He's filthy rich and powerful. Where did you get your information?
Read "Enemies vs Allies". Its a period piece, short read novel about Batman and Superman. I really like the way they break down the fight between the two. It can be done, if done properly.

Look I tried:
I didn't say that. Look maybe it's just the way you read my posts now, and that's certainly my fault, but that isn't my point.
The only thing I said about that is that I'm NOT SURE, YOU can definitively say that one didn't affect the other. That's the only point when it comes to the Smallville-SR connection.
I never said the reverse. I'm saying we can't know. All we do know is that...SR failed.
Certainly this was part of it, yes.
