Last I heard, the selected wearers of #18 gather together and choose the next player to carry on the tradition. I guess they get input from current players and coaches. Or, has it changed and is #18 chosen by the team now?

Wasn't it originally suppose to be given to the hardest working white boy or something? I thought I remember hearing that back then as an inside joke or something.
