teen pregnancy (and abortion) rates are in serious decline from their peak in the late 80s/early 90s
I am aware of that - at least I have heard that reported.
This whole situation is very convoluted and certainly my suggestion is a broad brush statement that overlooks many of the subtleties of how our current society has evolved.
There is not enough space and I am not smart enough to write a dissertation that details the entire process from WWII to now that would convince anyone of how this all came to be.
I say again - the 'sexual revolution' of the sixties was a huge contributor, if not the genesis, of most of the cultural rot that has infected the social fabric of the nation. Free, unbridled, irresponsible sex has led to 'new normals' of unwed motherhood, abortion on demand, explosion of divorce rates, single parent families, kids having kids, lack of quality parental guidance, etc etc etc.
Many more contributors played a part of course, but my only input here is to isolate what I think a simple causative factor might be.
