I might go that direction. I'll put those on the list of dogs to look for:
Westies
Caerns
Lab mixes (for outside, my SO loves labs)
poodle mixes
Shepherd mixes

Cairns and Westies are small to medium dogs, and they are pretty thick-boned. That's one of the reasons I got mine. I didn't want a dog that the kids would inadvertently hurt because it was brittle or feeble. As I stated in other post, my buddys got a Westie that's a snake killer. The dog was bitten by a snake when it was younger, and now it hates them.
