there was a couple from Germany that clearly had never seen one before. They just walked up about five feet from it, not realizing that thing could destroy them

Beautiful park. Spent about 10 days there in '07...awesome trip when our kids were in middle school. Would love to go back again in a few years.

We took a two week trip out west when I was in third grade and I still remember that waterfall. I also remember being absolutely terrified that I was going to trip and roll down those steep as cliffs into that river while hiking to see it.

I rode my motorcycle out there in June of 07. I camped in my tent and like to have frozen. It got down in the 20's and snowed. This was in the middle of June. It was a great trip though.

"We are going the first week in October"

My dad and his wife went the exact same tI me last year and literally got out there the day after the government shutdown started. His wife had never been to Yellowstone (he has with me in late April 1998) and never got to enter the park. They ended up spending the whole time in Jackson Hole. Talk about crappy luck.

To the OP, have you been by Grand Prismatic spring yet? The northern part of the park with the limestone formation and the boiling mud pots is a must see as well.

Great beer on tap everywhere I have been. You have to try Cold Smoke on draft if you get a chance, it's like tin roof parade grounds except smoother and on draft

I'll make a note of that one. They have Big Sky Moose Drool on draft at a few places here in Dallas.

Also, I'm extremely jealous of your vacation. Are you staying in the park or outside in Livingston or Bozeman?

Also, did you do a guided fishing trip of the Madison? Nymphs or dries?

We're staying about half a mile outside the park in west yellowstone. I kind of prefer that because it's a nice little town with good food/ drink options.

We did a guided tour on a skiff using nymphs. Caught a couple rainbow trout and a pretty big mountain whitefish

Thanks for sharing these and those yet to come. Yellowstone is amazing.

Wondering if you plan to drive down to the Grand Tetons also. My son and I took an awesome road trip from Atlanta some years ago, went to both, but didn't allow enough time at Tetons - that's a regret.

One thing I did - we drove into West Yellowstone (the town) and used it as a jumping off place to drive into Idaho so I could get out at the state line welcome sign and honestly say I'd set foot in Idaho while we were there. Am working on bucket list of getting to all 50 - still missing a few (WA, OR, ND, NV, DE, HI and AK all I have left).
