They can opt out of that lease at any time they choose without penalty. Fine print bruh.
They aren't going to San Jose, the Giants won't give it up.

Yes they will, Cisco Field is for the A's.

I'd be curious to see what the fine print says about an opt out clause.

A's can buyout the last 7 years after 2018, but for a park to be built in california before 2019 it would have to be announced here pretty damn soon. The 49er's new stadium was propsed in '06 approved in '10 and opening in '14 so 8 years total. The A's probably have a head start but I can bet there would be setbacks. It took the Giants 4 years to get theirs. So the A's would have to get MLB to let them move San Jose, get San Jose to have an election to get funding by the end of this year to make the 2018 deadline.
If the Raiders reach a deal for a stadium at the Coliseum I think the A's become free agents.

The deal requires that Wolff engage in "good faith" discussions about building a ballpark in Oakland. But it allows the team to move out of the Coliseum at any time after 2018 if it buys out its lease, and grants Oakland the right to give the A's two year's notice to leave if a deal is reached for the Raiders to build a football stadium that interferes with the A's operations.
Also the affecting the A's the San Jose land goes back on the market in November.

Meanwhile, San Jose’s land option for property across from the SAP Center expires in November.

What makes you think the A's will suddenly be allowed to move to San Jose by MLB?

Suddenly? They've been in talks for Cisco Field since 2006 and with the A's to move there since about 2010.
Just takes time.

The A’s dream of moving to San Jose is all but barricaded, at least for the foreseeable future,” Mercury News scribe Tim Kawakami wrote in his column Monday. Kawakami cited several unnamed league sources. “The votes aren’t there. The lawsuit filed by the city of San Jose against Major League Baseball [MLB] has gotten no traction and in fact has only inflamed the other owners against the idea.”
For five years, A’s owner Lew Wolff has eyed San Jose as a new home, having suffered through sluggish ticket sales and dilapidated facilities made worse by sharing the Coliseum with the Oakland Raiders. But for five years, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has refused to let the A’s move, citing the San Francisco Giants’ claim to territorial rights, which were gifted by late A’s owner Walter Haas in the early ’90s.
All signs point to them not going

And the Giants have consistently refused to cede territorial rights. Only way it can pass would be 24 of the 30 owners voting yes on it I believe. You can count out the Giants and owners with similar territorial concerns like the Rangers, Astros, etc. I'd be surprised if the owners dicked over the Giants like that. The stadium was supposed to open last year originally IIRC, there's a reason it's never gotten past the phase it's in

It's been slated to open in 2017, this stuff just takes time.
And that 10 year lease with the no penalty opt out gave them just that, time.
Time for either the Raiders to move, get their own stadium, or for the A's to move into a new stadium in Oakland or SJ or elsewhere. The highest probability remains San Jose of all those options right now in which the Raiders would then completely overhaul O.co with the $400 million they have right now for a stadium.
The funny thing about San Francisco opposing it so strongly is that Levi Stadium is basically in San Jose. San Fran can build a stadium 60 miles outside SF in San Jose, but no one else can!

We better not move to San Antonio.

It's had several dates and like three different proposed locations. The first was in Fremont, I think the current one is now downtown San Jose, which seems unlikely with the pending lawsuit the A's have against the city.
I would be shocked if they move to Silicon Valley, I wish they would because that's one team I haven't seen at home yet and I've been waiting for them to build a new park to go see them. I would guess they eventually get something passed in Oakland

It sucks but I don't blame the Giants for protecting it. That's a huge market they have a stranglehold on. If the A's moved down there and kept playing winning ball it would cut into their market share in a huge way. Granting them that was a colossally stupid move on the former A's owners part

Like I posted earlier the Cisco Field site deal is up in nov and the league owners are pissed at the A's and enough of them will vote no to block the move. Also here is Bud Selig just a few weeks ago
quote:LINK
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig called the deal an important development in keeping the Athletics in Oakland in the long term.
“We had a few tough moments, but over all, I sensed the last week it was going in the right direction,” Selig said Tuesday in Pittsburgh. “I’m very pleased. It’s one step, one important step, to over all solving that problem.”

Well Oakland is broke as shite, I don't know where the hell they think they're going to get the money for a new stadium.

The city is yes, the fact that the Raiders have 400 million ready to go towards a stadium but can't get one is bullshite.
I'd bet that is substantially more upfront money from a team for a new stadium than most if not all other newer stadiums had.

This is just a scare tactic to get tax payers in California to buy them a new stadium.
Standard operating procedure.

We have all been cheated by the Grim Reaper.
Imagine a battle between Al Davis and Jerry Jones over a Raiders move to San Antonio.
It would have been the very definition of a Face Off:
