My cameras are still in the closet also. Waiting to hear if we will be hunting the same property as last year.

Until then, I make do by checking in on Lee and Tiffany's live trail cam most days between 7:30 and 8:30 pm.

but they stayed nocturnal

That was the problem we had with that big 8 on that 12ac. The only daylight pic we got was on thanksgiving day at 10am and we were at our respective houses for dinner

I had a few 4pts and one big 8 or 10 on cam at my place in another parish, but very few daylight pics of the big 8/10

In my experience, if you don't get a crack at a mature buck during the first couple of weeks of bow season, you likely won't get another chance until the rut action starts to heat up. We don't often have the luxury of non-nocturnal bucks in the south lol.

I've only recently picked up bowhunting and I would tend to agree to the point, but in most cases its the rut or nothing. Way too much pressure in some areas and they're nocturnal regardless.

I've had some success patterning bachelor groups of bucks on summer food plots and setting up on them during the first few hunts of the year. It's usually a one and done kind of thing. Once they sense your presence at any scale, they gone. I killed a nice Poper on our farm last year that way.

But you're right, the rut is always your highest opportunity by far.

For anyone interested, its 7:43pm and there's a pretty nice buck on the Lakosky live deer cam.

Not a monster, but a solid 3 year old 8 with a sticker off his right g2.

ETA: nevermind. something just spooked all the deer off. 7:50pm.

These are almost 2 months old, but you can tell a few of them have some pretty good potential. Our ac went out down there so no one had been down until this past weekend after we finally got it fixed. Hoping to go back down this weekend and have some updated pics.

Something knocked the camera around on the t-post so only got a few pics after that. This split browtine deer should be pretty nice

They also found this skull this picture doesn't really do it justice. It was a very heavy horned deer.

it's amazing to me how skinny bucks get in the summer, then explode in the fall/winter.

On some of the pics it was registering 110+ degrees. Hard to carry weight in that kinda heat

I just wish someone would put me on a big doe so i can fill my freezer. I have never shot a deer, only been a hangfull of times through invites. Im more of a fisherman with the occasional duck/dove hunt.

We have one tank that will hold water year round, a creek that holds occasionally in a few deep spots, and gravity fed water troughs run pretty much throughout the place. They also eat the shite outta the cactus.
