Wait is this a go? Because at Denver comic-con this summer Amell referred to Sarah's actress as "The Black Canary". it was a throwaway line, he just said it in passing, but is there a chance Laurel isn't becoming anything?
He referred to their mother being a villain as well.

SDCC had the entire cast and the 2 showrunners there.
cliffnotes:
-they mentioned Laurel will have a great story and it involves Wildcat
-Felicity will be on episode 4 of the Flash. her backstory will also be explored. the showrunners have known her story since season 1
-everyone thinks Thea is just in Europe
-roy and thea will have an interesting meeting during the season
-the showrunners originally wanted to use Ted Kord, but DC said they already have plans for him. That's why they are using Ray Palmer (so dont expect blue beetle to ever be on Arrow)
that also shows, that while the tv shows and movies are separate, they are not going to "double down" on characters.

Sarah is the current Canary, but the showrunners have stated that what we are seeing is the origin of the Black Canary, and have strongly hinted that Laurel will eventually take up the mantel as the true Black Canary that we know from the comics. Now that can happen this season, next season, or they may change their mind and it not happen at all. But I think that was their plan from the beginning of the show.

Laurel and Sarah's mother is going to be a villain? I would be very surprised if they made Dinah a villain considering she was basically the first Black Canary in the comics.
