Never get Mexican in nola though because we have really good Mexican in BR.
Only Mexican places I can recall that I went to in BR were Casa Maria (good), La Carreta (overrated to the max), Caliente (mehhhh and overpriced), Coyote Blues is decent, but not as amazing as people make it out to be, Zippy's (good margs, mehhh food), and Superior Grill in BR is, well, Superior Grill; take that FWIW...
With that being said I never tried Ninfa's which I hear is good.

Yea that's a pretty meh list of places.

The places I mentioned fit the trashy TexMex chips/salsa/queso, frozen margs sort of night. Which I enjoy every now and then.
This. I love going to superior. Awesome margaritas and a great atmosphere. Food is average, but find one thing you like & stick to it.

Exactly. I love being a foodie and going to great restaurants, but sometimes I feel like slumming it. I've never had fajitas messed up anywhere, even at Superior. Plus their margs ...it's a fun place to go.

The FQ location is one of the worst mexican spots I've been to. Lakeview spot was decent.

I took Ham and bbrou to the Superior in Shreve on Saturday before Great Raft. They're still killing it up there. The food is 100x better than at other Superior locations. Guess that's what you get when you don't have hipster Tulane kids on summer break as line cooks.

Superior is not slumming it brah. Go to a dive taqueria with telumundo on the TV, limes in the ice tea, and day labors eating lunch. That's slumming it and that's where the best food is located.

Agreed. Superior is easily a $60 meal for 2 people. And the food at the Nola one is pretty awful.

Nobody mentioned Juan Flying Burrito yet?
Posted on 7/21/14 at 9:16 pm to SportsGuyNOLA
I went to the Mid City location about 3 years...it's overrated.

actually ate at Juan's last night. It's good and cheap. Fiancées shrimp were raw yesterday though.
But overall it's more hit than miss. Mardi Gras Indian tacos FTW!

To me all the mexican restaurants in the GNO area taste the same. What get's me in is how the salsa taste with the complimentary chips and salsa. If a place charges you for chips in salsa no way I'm going.

Used to eat at Juans all the time back when I worked on canal. Thought it was a good, quick cheap meal.
Underrated joint in kenner is taqueria MI rancho which is right by the rib room on Williams.
Of course how can we forget taco tico

I can live with Juan's. Pork and slaw tacos are consistently good.
As for the best, Canal Street Bistro is in a class of its own.
Then you have casa borrega, la casita, Juan's, Gato Negro, and maybe del fuego. Haven't tried mizado yet.
For a city known for food, that list is a joke.

Best Mexican Restauraunt … Food/Margaritas/atmosphere?
You'll know you've found a good Mexican restaurant if they don't know what margaritas are.

they don't all taste the same. El Gato Negro is the worst Mexican I've tasted. even worse than Velvet.
on the other hand, in metry, Casa Garcia is real good

I always forget about Canal Street Bistro because the name doesn't register Mexican in my head. Is that the same chef who had the place out in Kenner then where Irish House is now?
Mizado is terrible. Loud loud terrible music. They put some sort of foam on the margaritas. There's no reason to do that to a margarita. I didn't enjoy the food at all.
I got food poisoning at Juan's years ago. I have zero desire to go back since.
