I actually lived in Eagle River for a year and a half in the early 1990s. Its truly a beautiful place in the summer time. I suggest a bear tour and find some coupons and go up in a water plane. It is awesome. Also, do not underrate Eskimo women. They're often short and some have hair that grows in funny places, but my goodness they frick like salmon.

Do an all species/combination fishing trip out of Seward. We caught silver salmon, ling cod, and halibut. One of the best trips I ever made. As a bonus we also saw lots of wildlife while on the trip.

Since you will be there in the Summer it should be a bit different

I went to Flattop Mountain when I was there but it was covered in snow, and you couldn't hike to the top. But you should be able to in August
