I know everybody crabs over there, but are there any redfish to be had there as well?

I haven't been there in years, but fishing used to be fairly limited to a bunch of smaller ditches running all across the place...crabbing and throwing a castnet for skrimps was good because you could pretty much drive up to the ditch and set up there....

yes you can catch reds in the canals with a popping cork and skrimps, dead or alive

There is a launch in the refuge and the Gulf is about 1/2 mile run by boat- maybe not even that far.

Redfish are not usually my number 1 target when I go there, but there's usually plenty to be caught. I have some friends that do pretty good with the redfish. The Bertrand canal is a good place to try as well as price lake road canal. I've caught plenty of specs out there as well.
