well, they've had a Death valley sign on Howard's Rock since the 60s. I have no idea how long it's been on their stadium. It's been on Tiger Stadium since the mid to late 70s I believe.
ETA: if i had to guess, Clemson didn't put it on their stadium like this until later in response to LSU "stealing their nickname" and doing it, otherwise why would they phrase is so similarly?
Ben Hill Griffin, for instance, has the nickname of The Swamp, and also has a similar sign, but phrased differently

It would be pretty cool to paint the east upper deck bleachers with "LSU". The ships going up the river would be able to see that pretty well.

Gold on the sides, purple on the face. They removed the purple part to install the lights I guess.

If it's true that it will end up being purple, that sucks. It would look a whole lot better lit up in gold and looking gold during the day. Purple signage with purple seats .....gold signage would be better

I'm personally not really a fan of yellow signs. I wish the lit up tiger stadium sign on the west side was white and back lit.
