and also i don't think it's ever a "good" thing to see a business that has been part of the community for so long go away. how long has ivars been open? 30+ years?

No one here said it was a good thing. Just saying Ivar's wasn't too good to begin with.
Obviously, I'd love to see the guy just improve the place or sell it to someone who would.

The guy has made no effort to improve the place at all. He is in a great spot with an obvious clientele that will pay his high prices. Why not make the bar a little better?
