I've always used spinning reels for everything. It's just what I grew up with. Me and pop never fished together so my only fishing trips were with my grandfather a few times and that's what he used so that's what I stayed with. Hand me your bait cast to try and I'll hand it back with a backlash you'll have to cut out.

ETA: sorry for the hijack OP

this is a little odd to me as well. I thought everyone used spinning reels for fishing with corks and baitcasters for plastics/topwater. Not knocking it, whatever works for you

the only thing I use spinning reels for is perch and sac a lait.... I even fish for specs with a bait caster with live bait under a cork .....

and for some odd reason my spinning reels are left handed and my bait casters are righties ... idk why right handed spinning reels just don't feel right to me ...

no I fish bait cast not no middle of the mall spin cast. So the cheaper Abus??? Thoughts??

From experience, anything cheaper than the Revo S will end up giving you problems with the worm gear/levelwind at some point with heavy use. And if you're gonna spend that money, just get a shimano curado, they handle salt better.

That's talking low profile reels, which I prefer. The round Abu reels seem to hold up to salt fine if you take care of them. All my dad uses. None of us fish salt a whole lot though, handful of times a year, a little more than that some years. Take it FWIW

What is the difference really? Doesn't it all come down to personal preference? I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find a fisherman that hasn't used a Zebco 33 at some point in his life.

Abu Garcia recently redid their entire round reel line. Now the Ambassadeur C3 and C4 come with coated bearing and corrosion resistant finishes, but they also jacked up the price on them. The C3 now runs $120 and the C4 is $140. You can probably find them on sale for $20 off though.

I find that a spinning reel is much better than bait cast in many saltwater applications. Anytime there is wind, a spinning reel is much better than a baitcast. Also, throwing light weight rigs is easier with a spinning reel.

H20 Mettle for that price range. I love mine, have had it for almost 2 years now with no issues.

Same here. With a gold spoon on the line, I was deadly with a Calcutta. But I couldn't cast a cork on that thing to save my life, and had no desire too. Once fished with some northern La. guys, and they fished corks on their baitcasters. Never understood it.

Really? shite man. No decent cheap baitcasters out there anymore I guess.
If I was the dude I'd just get a Curado and call it good enough

I have an Ambassador 6600 sx and it's held strong for years now against mangrove, lemon fish, blue fish, bull reds, etc.. No issues what so ever if sprayed off with the hose pipe after each trip.
