Why the Myers-Briggs test is totally meaningless

FYI
Interesting article y'all. Do any of you hiring managers administer this test? Think it's a useful tool?

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is probably the most widely used personality test in the world.
quote:
An estimated 2 million people take it annually, at the behest of corporate HR departments, colleges, and even government agencies. The company that makes and markets the test makes somewhere around $20 million each year.
quote:
"There's just no evidence behind it," says Adam Grant, an organizational psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania who's written about the shortcomings of the Myers-Briggs previously. "The characteristics measured by the test have almost no predictive power on how happy you'll be in a situation, how you'll perform at your job, or how happy you'll be in your marriage

I'm not a hiring manager, but we administer this test as part of Command and General Staff College - I think it is a useful tool in teaching our students about thinking.

I would definitely agree with that - doesn't make it invalid or worthless for specific purposes.
"Know yourself."

That quote is from someone. Who obviously doesn't understand the purpose of the Myers-Briggs. It isn't a "personality test". It is an inventory of personal preferences related to how someone interacts with their world.
It isn't meant to predict anything. It is meant to help people understand why they interact with other people or situations the way they do. The real value, into opinion is in doing team-building initiatives. When you understand where you and the other people on your team are coming from, it usually makes it easier to navigate the team-forming and building process.

I didn't know people used it professionally. I thought it was intended for personal use and that's about it.
I do fall really well into the slot they gave me. My character matches it to a T.

Nailed it.
It is a baseline tool for Situational Leadership in the touchy feely modern corporate world.

Useful. Found it to be one of the most accurate PIs from my experiences. Our company uses these for work teams - individuals are assessed and the the members' graphs are overlayed for team index. Pretty interesting stuff.
