What I have seen, is guys at lunch, at the food counters, buying chicken wings and pizza and other stuff with the EBT card, while a few weeks ago I saw a girl with 2 kids at walmart. She was trying to buy one of the rotiserie chickens, but that wasn't allowed on her card. That didn't really make sense to me.
The guys may have had cash on their card. You can basically buy anything with the cash. The food stamp portion is only for certain prepared foods and they must not be hot, as is rotisserie chicken. Doesn't make sense since most people aren't gonna chow down their rotisserie chicken in the middle of a WalMart or Winn Dixie.

That is not what legal tender means.
If I was offering gold bullion in payment of debt, it would be accepted.

I do know that you have to apply for it in person, and if it is approved, it only lasts for a certain amount of time before you have to meet a different set of qualifications in order for it to continue.

If they spoke English as well as you do...
If the cost of living wasn't so high and it went up up up after Katrina... (I ran into a former landlord last week and he told me that the rent on the $500/month 2 BR/2BA apartment I rented from him in 2002 is now $900 a month.)
All you have to do to qualify for food stamps is have your outgo be more than your income. People who get the max unemployment $249/week qualify for some sort of assistance. $249/week translates to slightly less than what minimum wage is now. Not everyone has the brains to make a 6 figure income.

I can get a cell phone and minutes without a contract for less money than what it costs to have a land line.
It's really none of your business what phone people on food stamps have.
What I have a problem with is an acquaintance of mine (post-whatever hurricane) got emergency food stamps. He makes anywhere from $55-70K per year as a postal worker.
No way in hell does he or will he ever deserve to get food stamps!!!!

Food stamps should be for the absolute necessities.
If it should be for absolute necessities, then it should cover things like toilet paper, tampons for your whiny vag, Depends for your red arse, and over the counter medicines. If you don't have money for food, then you definitely don't have money for things you need to survive.
I don't think they should be used for things like tobacco and alcohol but anything else for day to day existence should be allowed. Necessity stamps, not food stamps.
And for all of you people that think that food stamp people should only get certain items, you go eat milk bread cheese meat ("not steaks and shite") eggs month in, month out and tell me how you like it. I could not give a rat's arse what people use food stamps for because once it's gone, it's gone until the next rollover. If they want to get a rack of rib eyes for the month and nothing else, who are you and I to determine what is proper?
It's NOT MY BUSINESS!!!!! (and shouldn't be yours).

Where's the government going to acquire all this farm land? I can't imagine that the government won't overbid on shoddy farmland that belongs to "insert lobbyist or politician's name" cousin.
Or gov't only cover specific foods at a specific/low price. Just like they do with medicare. The grocers would be pissed, but frick em. They don't care how shitty medicare pays med. Or Medicaid which is half of medicare.

I have no idea how much money the government provides people with to purchase food.
That would depend on the number of people in the household. Those people who defrauded WalMart probably had tons of kids and were getting lots of benefits. The one person I know getting assistance gets less than $200/month. Those with bigger families and more mouths to feed definitely get more but I have no clue as to what the cap on it is, if there even is one.

And get them for fraud if they let someone use the card that it was not issued to. And make them give the groceries then file a claim to get paid in 6 months to a year. And don't pay them if they don't fill out the 12 page claim correctly.

A 2BR/2BA is more than $500/month. Hell, some 1 BR are more than $500/month.
you have to calculate utility costs and other expenses. They are looking at that $500 as cash on hand which is automatic disqualification.

That baby in my avi isn't mine and he's deceased. His name was Alex and he had multiple surgeries and died from some type of genetic heart problem. Some of us TDers put up his picture in support of his parents, who are also on Tiger Droppings.
So... maybe you need to think before you type.

NOT TRUE
Posted on 7/10/14 at 7:47 pm to EddieHewitt
What's not true? The rent part or the cash on hand?
DFCS doesn't want you to have any money in your name, in your bank account.
Cash on hand means you can buy groceries.

That $500 has nothing to do with cash in hand PERIOD
