I thought the deal with that was that he was incredibly athletically gifted (or whatever the wizarding equivalent of being athletic is), and he had handlers to help him out with the thinking parts.
I don't think he was dumb though, he was just very moody and liked to keep to himself. His first language wasn't English, so you may be getting that he was dumb from the poor way he used the English language.
I mean he wasn't real athletically gifted, he wasn't as skilled off his broom.
Everyone had people helping them out on the thinking parts. Remember Fake Moody helped Harry and Cedric. Maxime was also helping out Fleur.

I don't think you can say he wasn't athletically gifted. He was the best player in the world at the most important position in the biggest sport, and he was 17 yrs old

Please get off of Quidditch, no it doesn't make any sense. Why not just have a goalie and a team full of Seekers. She clearly made it so Harry could be the most important, let's change the subject
Who pooped in your cheerios this morning?

I had an objective with this thread damnit

Fair enough. Regarding the wizarding economy. I saw it as being a socialist republic similar to China. People were encouraged to own businesses and amass wealth but power was consolidated by a few at the top. I would have liked to know more about the wizarding world outside of the UK. Would the USA's wizarding world be more democratic and mirror the muggle government etc.

I mean he walked around like a duck, he was definitely talented on a broom, but he may not have been a super jock capable of doing track/soccer/ice hockey/whatever else they do it Bulgaria.

Yea I always wondered that as well, she doesn't go into that at all really. It's kind of a shame, there could be a whole other set of books going into the world she created, although I'd rather someone else wrote them bc she is sure to leave some major holes

The world she created is extremely interesting. I hope she chooses to write more beyond Fantastic Beasts movies. I doubt she would pass it on to someone else though.

2. Money - I think we can say with pretty much certainty that there is some kind of enchantment or something preventing you from creating or multiplying money (not to mention it's counterfeiting which is illegal) Not confirmed but pretty much agreed to be true
3. Intentional Curse damage - It is shown several times throughout the books that injuries caused by curses cannot be undone with magic, you can heal a broken arm with a wand if you fall off your broom, but if someone breaks your arm with a curse you can't magic it better. This is a fact and confirmed in the books, and I think we can safely say it is one of Gamp's Laws
In the Vault when they went get the Goblet everything they touched (including money) multiplied. Granted that would be no use to them because if you touch a coin it would multiply so it is basically impossible to use it.
As far as curse damage, Snape reverses the Sectumsempra curse that Harry Cast on Malfoy.
quote:
Sectumsempra is a curse invented by Professor Severus Snape, during his childhood, when he was known as "The Half-Blood Prince".[1] He created it with the intention of using it against his enemies,[2] and it soon became one of his specialties.[3]

I think J.K. Rowling put it best

Still think guns could have been used at some point.

Right, my point is why don't they track more bad guys? If they have the ability and they also have the approval to do so, why doesn't everyone who goes into Azkaban get a tracker placed on them? Yes it would have sucked for Sirius, but then again Bellatrix never would've been able to escape and kill him
I think you're overlooking the primary reason that the magical world was in the mess that it was in. Their government was corrupt as shite. Imagine for a moment that you are in the order and you hear a rumor that the ministry is pushing through a law that allows them to track anybody they want (all in the name of stopping Voldemort of course). Is your first thought going to be that they will use it for it's intended purpose or that they will abuse the shite out of it at best, or even worse use it to track down people who are working against Voldemort?
Considering that they had people like Fudge (who abused his powers to try to take out Dumbledore) and Umbridge (no explanation needed) in power I think a law like that would be heavily opposed by anybody with a functioning brain.

The gemino curse/doubling charm can just double things, not just unending like the Goblins use it. You can use it to make exact replicas. Only issue is those items will eventually reveal themselves either by going bad/looking different. I am sure the Goblins have ways to detect the gemino curse like the thief's downfall so you can't make a massive bank account though.
There is definitely some confusion about curses and when it will cause permanent damage. Sectumsempra did cause permanent damage when George's ear was removed. There may be a difference when it causes a cut versus severing a body part because sectumsempra literally means sever forever. May have also been Harry's lack of ability to do it as well, remember fake Moody told them they could all do Avada Kedavra to him and only cause a nose bleed.

That wasn't permanent, that was a hex to prevent thieves.

No he doesn't, he uses spells to heal Malfoy yes, but not to replace to transfigure any of him. Remember these are Gamp's Laws of Transfiguration...
quote:
Though the aforementioned healing spell may heal the wounds and dittany may prevent scars, any body parts that have been severed by this curse cannot be grown back (a trait of dark magic's permanent effects), as demonstrated by George Weasley when he lost his left ear to the spell.[3]

Gemino curse is not like the leprachaun gold. It can take years or longer to reveal the fake unless you use something to detect it. Pretty much what Snape used to make a double of Gryffindor's sword. There was a story about it on Pottermore too. It does more than just prevent thieves, that's just the way it is used in Gringotts. Goblins can clearly detect it though since the sword was found out immediately by Griphook. It fooled wizards though.

I already asked this question in a thread I started a long time ago. I'll see if I can find it.
