We are gonna look back and hate ourselves when all these poors stop smoking and live longer.
We don't need bans, we need to let nature take it's course. Smoking has been deemed lower class behavior by way of American Propagandist efforts.
This fact has forced middle and Upper Class Americans to discard the vice. We should leave it as is and idealize the smoking behavior in circles of poverty while pushing massively subsidized birth control for poors, funding it all with an increased tobacco tax.
Stop breeding poverty, people.
Excellent point.

Just so you know, admins can still read what you edited out in every post but the edit was a very good Mea culpa to them in that sense.
You made the right decision because there's no fricking way Chicken would be letting you back in the thread on the OT today.

i`m pretty much agains`t any government ban on anything, i believe in the free market and i don`t smoke, right now it`s open season on smokers and it set`s a precedent of guvment intervention . One day they may come after something that`s important to me for the "welfare of the people" . How socialist does that sound?

I remember the days of going out on the weekend and coming home smelling like smoke. Don't miss them.
So the smoking didn't even bother you enough to go to a non-smoking establishment?

Seriously, they think they're advocating legislation to save them from others but really they want the government to save them from themselves
How big of an imbecile do you have to be to admit that without realizing it?

Link to people being forced to share this habit with smokers?
seriously, you probably don't realize how deceptive and misleading this statement is.

the world is a completely different place now with regards to smoking. You might not notice it, since I think you are under 25.
When I started college, all of this happened:
* I worked at a bookstore, and you could smoke while you worked (although this changes pretty quickly).
* I had a professor in college that smoked while he taught. He was probably breaking the rule, but there was nothing you could do about it.
* You could smoke in your dorm room without your roommate's consent.
* At my high school, if you were over 16, you could smoke on school grounds!
* You could smoke on planes, although you might remember this
* I remember going to the SS office as I lost my card in 1989 or so, and there were people smoking in the waiting room.
Its changed a lot and I have to say, I am glad it changed. I don't know about a total public ban, but I have to admit I like the existing rules. A lot.

There were no non-smoking bars in Collegetown.

If I have to breath in second-hand smoke in the open air, I'm sharing in your a smoker's habit--however briefly. It's pretty straightforward and simple.

That's so deep, bro. You must be a well-publish psychiatrist.

But you're not being forced to do it and is free to walk away at any time. If you don't like people smoking or an establishment that allows it, don't associate with them and leave it at that.
I say this as someone who absolutely hates smoking and doesn't even drink. Smoking almost killed my father when I was two but he made it through thank god. I just don't appreciate and respect people trying to control private entities when nobody is being hurt, forced to do anything, property is stolen, and/or people are being slandered/defrauded.

This just didn't work, people tried.
So I live right by a bar (actually 7), and when I walk down the sidewalk they are all smoking in front of the bar and BOOM I have to walk through smoke. Am i supposed to not be able to walk down my street without inhaling that stuff?

Smoking does hurt you, this is where we disagree. I think we should have more freedom, and I would never really be for a ban on tobacco. But just like there are something I can't do in public (say have sex), there is a public interest in limiting behavior.
Tobacco use might be one of those things. I am still TBD on it.

Well in the case of a documented, airborne threat to public health, I'm good with it. I also believe in public noise ordinances and statutes against indecent exposure.

I like libertarian ideals, i think we should strive for more freedom. But living in a world with no rules would be fricking annoying.
Can you imagine walking down the street and see a game of sticky biscuit in the middle of the street? or walking into a bar and seeing people openly carrying guns? Or people running through red lights?
Absolute freedom is just not possible, the question is what are the reasonable restrictions?

I think some nuts have been doing this over the past several months. Apparently even most staunch 2nd amendment supporters are encouraging them to knock it off.

Guilty. But my driving skills are legendary. I shouldn't have to abide by the normal rules of the road.

A group of men stand around jacking off onto a cookie in the middle of the group, the last person to orgasm has to eat the cookie.
