I also had 0 gold in my bank account

Sucked watching 5 hours of work being destroyed by a civil fricking war cause I'm too new/bad to realize that would happen

I was playing as France and musketeers and gatlin guns were doing quite well...until I found the enemy's artillery hidden behind a city...blown to fricking peices. Didn't realize i was under a combat penalty for the unhappiness either

i own bnw and g&k

Oh Jeff. There is a period of time between unlocking Trebuchets and Artillery that is just awful for attacking and taking cities. I tend to try and be peaceful for that period of time because it's not worth the hassle unless the enemies are next to one of my production cities. As for happiness, build those coliseums and try to structure your religion to give happiness bonuses if you still need more.

I try not to war too much as France. Go cultural.

True. You can screw up your whole game at that point. That isn't a bad time to start buttering up some nearby CSs.

I hated religion at first but it can help once you get the hang of it. Pagodas are awesome. +2 to happiness, culture, and faith.
