Is vet strongly suggesting anti venom?

Healthy dog... worth it
Yeah this isn't like a 13 year old dog riddled with cancer.
Healthy dog that will likely fully recover if treated.
OP....you can always ask about Care Credit at the vet. It is basically a credit card for medical stuff. You get 6 months no interest to pay it off.

I've treated dogs without it and done well but it's a good idea. If you can't do the antivenom then you can't do it. At the very least they can monitor him over night and ensure that the more severe, secondary issues do not develop.

Animal hospital on Sherwood said that was the only thing to do, anit venom. I've been reading and it sounds like he has a good chance of fighting it off, and that most vets will give something to relieve pain and reduce swelling, but not recommend anit venom.

shite...
This just reminded me about my lab my family put down yesterday.
Flipped stomach. We caught it in time, but after they opened him up to fix it they noticed his liver was 85% cancer. Doctor said he would only have a few weeks past the surgery

IMO there is never just 1 treatment option.
Do I think that could be included in the optimal treatment plan? Yes. Do I think there are other things that can be done to help the dog? yes.

Well good luck with your dog. Poor baby, he must be in a ton of pain right now and scared.

This is what I was thinking as well. Nurse summed it up perfectly.
I'd bring him in and let them do what they need to do. I wouldn't want to take that chance of waiting until tomorrow.
They're there right now and can more than likely give him a check up right away.
I also agreed with Aubiedvm. They can at least monitor him overnight.
Bring him up there.
Get off of here and just do it. Then it's done and you'll at least have an idea of what you're dealing with.

Looks like a cottonmouth but can't tell for sure with the damage unless you get us a pic of the anal vent down to the tail. It's completely different in a pit viper than in a non poisonous snake and a positive ID.

Esp for vets. I can see them saying "we strongly recommend the antivenom but if you don't want to do that we can also try this"
But to say there is only one course of treatment?

It sure as shite looks like a water moccasin or cottonmouth. The mangled head kinda makes it hard. Check out it's tail, if it has kind of a short stumpy looking tail, then it's a water mouthed cotton moccasin. Good luck with your dog.

Care Credit has been a lifesaver for us before. Month before our wedding and money was pretty tight (since we paid for everything). Of course that would be when our lab gobbles up a bunch of mushrooms on a camping trip....costing us $900 for his weekend stay at the animal hospital in Flagstaff.
Thank goodness for Care Credit then.

Yea it just seems silly to say there is only 1 plan.
The antivenom thing was controversial for some types of snakebites. For copperheads IMO it is almost never necessary. I never lost a dog to copperheads - even 1 that was bitten on the tounge and neck. For cottonmouth its a good idea I think. For rattlers it's a really good idea.
THe majority of dogs do recover so I think his dog should do ok.

Always heard you give your dog Benadryl if it is bitten by a snake. He will get sick for a couple days but will shake back. Also will build up some immunity so next time a moccasin comes at him he can show him who is Baws!!
