Fagundez won’t be eligible for United States citizenship until 2018, and only players who have dual citizenship when they play their first FIFA-sanctioned competitive game can change their soccer allegiances at a later date.

I mean, who knows, there may be some loophole somewhere, but i wouldnt count on it. He gone.

What about Zelalem? he's played at Germany at every level.

Maybe Zelalem being a minor at the time of his citizenship makes a difference? Dont really get it either.

Well the German guys who played at the German youth levels it works out b/c one of their parents are citizens
But he was born in Germany to non germans and just became a citizen.
this shite is uber confusing sometimes

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's too late for him now

The type of competition also matters. Zelalem didn't play in any tournaments but Fagundez did. Therein lies the diference.

Did he play in FIFA sanctioned matches or just friendlies?

Only friendlies as there is no official tournaments for the Germany U-15 and 16 to play in. He turned down a call up by their U-17 to play in a UEFA U-17 qualifier that would have made him ineligible to play for the US.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I remember all of the talk about him turning down the U-17 or 18 UEFA call up.

New rumor that Junior Flores (BVB) is going on loan to DCU for the year. No confirmation though, and the source is hispanic and questionable.

is dan potts still in the picture or is he committed to england?
Posted on 2/6/15 at 4:28 pm to S
Turns out he was never eligible, because his dad didn't apply for US citizenship or a US passport in time, or something. So his dad wasn't a proper citizen when Potts was born, so baby Potts was defacto eliminated from USMNT consideration.
ETA: I read about this a long time ago so I've forgotten the details. Sorry.

Ventura Alvarado played 90 minutes for Club America, again. Really, really hope Jurgen gets him into the next training camp. I would hate to lose this guy to Mexico.
