I grew up there. Not a terrible place, just not my cup of tea.

There's plenty of opportunities for mortgage bankers. There's tens of banks there that have there production offices in the city.

Neighborhood wise: There's really only two options if you want your kids in public schools. Youngsville or the G3 area of Lafayette (Broadmoore, Alleman, Lafayette High district). If you can afford Tuerlings, STM, or Ascension you can live in just about any safe neighborhood.
