diminish legacy? possibly, if the sole reason you abandon ship is because you not mentally tough enough to win without taking shortcuts
Did you use the mouse to click Submit or did you take the shortcut and use tab and enter to make that post.

Choose wisely, your posting legacy rides on the answer!

Realized that right after hitting enter when I saw they were all baseball players.

I think there is something to be said for remaining loyal to a team and committing to the franchise and city through thick and thin - like Kobe, Duncan, Dirk, etc.

There are lots to be said for it, you're right. It does show loyalty. It also shows whether or not that organization surround that player with sufficient talent. At some point, you have to decide what's more important, blind loyalty or trying to put yourself in the best possible position to win a title.

What it doesn't have anything to do with is how good that player is.

Eh.. I don't think retiring off somewhere at the very end is the same thing as far as playing for multiple teams and their achievements/accomplishments..

Kinda like Joe Montana..

With all that said, I am not sure it matters.. but it's much nicer to see a guy do it for the majority of one franchise.

Kobe threatened a trade and Duncan was very close to signing with Orlando.

Wasn't he on a radio show saying he wanted to be traded?

I mean, you really get credit for loyalty when you're doing everything you can to leave but the organization refuses to trade you?

This x1000. Furthermore a player has absolutely no control where he starts his career. Why should i think that a players "legacy" is tarnished because he left the team that drafted him because they had absolutely no intention of getting him any real help to win a championship? I actually respect a player more for leaving a team that is not committed to winning than one that leaves for more money.

Whoaaaa, this is the MSB. Leave the logic at home my friend.

To answer the OP, no, it shouldn't, but that doesn't stop people. It is all subjective. People will use whatever method they need to diminish one player versus another, and they will change the argument whenever neccessary to protect the GOAT in their minds.

Rings are the end-all, be-all in the Jordan vs. LeBron debate, but they aren't neccessary in the Jordan vs. Russell debate. Go figure.

People have been laying the ground work to diminish Tiger Woods for years since it seemed apparent that Tiger would catch and surpass Nicklaus. If Tiger catches Nicklaus, they will diminish him by pointing to Nicklaus' 2nd and 3rd place finishes in majors, or they will make some unfounded comment about the quality of players that each had to face.

Bottom line is that players were better when I was younger than they are today, and I'll do or say whatever is neccessary to preserve my youth. Plain and simple.

When it fits someone's agenda for bashing a player they didn't like in the first place, sure.

A big supporter of staying loyal to a team and city. But what we often don't think about is that team being loyal back.
If a team isn't making a solid effort to improve, or if they just make bad decisions even, the player may have to leave.

It's like a marriage, if one side is loyal, but the other is not then it won't work out.
