The embellishment is kind of annoying but you can't fault Robben for going down and getting the PK. I agree with Alexi Lalas on this one. If someone fouls you and knocks you off balance, you should go down if the foul took away your chance to get a clean shot or pass. If you stay up and try to play the ball, the ref will often let it play due to advantage, even though you are now at a disadvantage.

Then you would be a shitty ref and would have made a terrible call in big situation.
I'd be a great ref that would put a stop to this bullshite.
But you're probably right deciding games like what happened is the better way to go about things.

Marquez should not have lounged in. End of story. You know the modern game and the type and caliber player robben is. why take the chance.
This is so stupid. Marquez shouldn't try to defend for fear a player may try to cheat and flop down like a raging vag pussy? This is such a GD fricking infuriating attitude it makes me sick to my stomach and is exactly why this crap still goes on.
I don't see how anyone who has ever played sports, or is just a man in general, could take this viewpoint.

despite the fact he embellished the fall, which is pretty obvious... you didn't think it was a foul by Marquez?

To some the end justifies the means, in both sport and in life. Those people are often the most successful. I don't see how that, as in flopping being an extension of looking foolish to gain an advantage over your opponent, is particularly un-masculine.

Mainly what I'm saying is that if I'm dealing with a known c**t like Robben and the call is in doubt at all and he falls down like the picture I posted there is no chance I'm ever ever giving him the benefit of the doubt. Especially in the 93rd minute of a knockout round World Cup game.
For me to blow the whistle on a bullshite flop like that I'm going to need to hear the guys shin's breaking from the contact/foul.
It is not possible for a human who is standing on the ground to naturally fall like that due to contact from another human.

No all i said is that you shouldn't lunge into a player who is faster than you, that you have been fouling the entire game, etc. especially in a moment that could lose the game for your team. He fouled him. a pk was rightly called
It was a foul. If you don't think that you don't trust your eyes or you are biased. If you don't call a foul because someone embellishes it, you are intentionally changing the game based on a personal bias. You are also going against your boss organization and the rules they have set up for this kind of action. Yellow robben. that's fine. but to intentionally not call something because you thing there is something disgracful. that is GD fricking infuriating and unmanly. a sissy move.

I think Robben was anticipating contact and he got it, had Marquez pulled up he would have looked silly flopping (and possibly carded), cause he was going down one way or the other... he took a chance and won... may not be a popular opinion, but it happens and was still a foul..

So you are giving the benefit of the doubt to the guy that is dirty, takes cheap shots, and fouls a lot. That makes plenty of sense.

So even if he got fouled, you refuse to call it? That is why you would never be in a situation to make this call. your personal bias clouds your judgment.

No one has disagreed. But apparently you would love to completely change the rules of the game to better suit your personal opinion.

I'm not talking about Marquez or that play in general. I'm talking about Robben's reaction and other players like him.

If someone falls like that, if anything, it is proof they were still in full control of their body so any contact was minimal.

Yes I would change the game and it would be much better. That's kind of the entire point.

So in making reffing decisions on the field, you can use a personal history of a flopper but not a cheap dirty fouler?

That is no where in the rule. The degree to the person was still in control of their body. Contact is contact. One reason flopping became a thing was this kind of attitude. This attitude encourages flopping because players would be encouraged to show to the ref that they no longer maintained control of their body.

Not for a ref on the field to take personal bias to a situation and call it differently than every other game. Yes, if you were a FIFA rules committee member, but not a ref on the field.

Randy, it was a foul. It was a foul in the box. A penalty was the correct call. Robben embellished. That doesn't mean it wasn't a foul.

As someone who used to referee, I agree with this sentiment. Not at 90'+, not at this level, not at this phase, not with everything on the line. No sir, I put that whistle in my pocket and make for the parking lot as soon as the game is over.
The problem was the ref had his whistle in his pocket early which set the tone for Robben to put that dick move on Marquez. Robben embellished but Marquez forced the ref to make a decision after the ref had blown calls earlier.
