LSU athletics goes above and beyond what should be expected of them. They are the only athletic department in the country that operates financially independently and gives back so much to the university.

The Louisiana government and constitution continuously frick over the university. The athletic department owes them nothing.

Let's also not forget the importance of lsu to the state's economy. The tale wags the dog in this situation. The state holds the university back

So discounting the above by calling it a moot point is a pretty ignorant view point

This is untrue. Texas AD gives more back to the university and takes no public funds. Also, there are a few schools who take money from the University for accounting purposes only.

Except their entire existence. LSU's athletic department employees are public employees. Les Miles salary has to be reported because he, again, is a public employee. The LSU chancellor, another public official and the head of the university is the boss of everyone in the athletic department.

I will state this again: without the state sponsored university, LSU athletics would not exist.

Thanks for repeating my exact point. The AD itself trumpets who much of an effect LSU athletics has on the state and local economies. Which is precisely why we shouldn't play a neutral site game every year outside of the state.

Disagree with my points all you want, but they are extremely valid and the fact that the AD gives back to the University changes none of them. Also, the fact that our state is run by idiot lawmakers are constantly cutting the budgets of higher ed in this state does not somehow remove the athletic department from it's responsibility to the state.
