Is logic/reason taking a back seat to emotion because of laziness?

Forming an argument or belief based on logic and reason takes time and energy. One has to not only read, research, and become acquainted with the facts, but must also use cognitive energy to process it all into a narrative that can be understood and repeated.
On the other hand, forming an argument based on emotion requires little to no energy. Emotions are evolutionary reactions to different stimuli. Our first reaction to pretty much anything, from watching an Al Qaeda operative beheading someone to seeing your team score a game-winning touchdown, is an emotion. Conclusions drawn from emotional responses are based on laziness. It is automatically assuming that your body knows what the correct answer is before any facts or evidence can be processed.
Emotions are animal mechanisms. Dogs can be happy, scared, nervous, etc. just like humans can.
Logic and reason are human mechanisms.
By god, let's use the full capabilities of our human brains. Doing anything less is an insult to what humans are truly capable of.
Sorry for the unsolicited PSA. Just something I had to get off my chest. I just see too much irrational behavior these days based on emotion. Everybody just calm the frick down, take a deep breath, and take your time to sort everything out. There's no shot clock for forming conclusions and beliefs.

Logic, reasoning and critical thinking take a lot of time, study and thought. This is why there are so few Libertarians and why almost none of them are female.

you realize leading with a sexist comment isn't a good way to win them over

You do realize that 99% of this board is male.
Edit: True story...golfers often ID their ball with a magic marker ...perhaps their initials. It's just to avoid striking the wrong ball if you're both hitting a Titleist 2.
This morning my partner and I were looking for my ball in the rough.
Him: "Hey, Zach, does your ball have a big No. 3 in magic marker?"
Me: "Do you see those 2 dots in the loops of the No. 3? Turn it this way."
Him: "Whoa, those are tits."
Now I would say that any golfer who marks his ball by drawing tits on it is a tad bit sexist.

Proof of point.

I am a female, and I agree with you.
Your comment reminds me of that Jack Nicholson movie where a young woman asked him how he did so well characterizing women ( he was an author). He said he took a man, then removed all reason and accountability.

Yeah I know, I'm male too and there are things about libertarianism that i like but i'm not sure if i can side with people who are so incredibly backward.

I don't think I'd call Libertarians backward when you have a problem using the shift key for 'I.'

In his defense, it's too much unnecessary work to hit the shift key on a phone.

Common sense has also been eroded away. I think this is mainly due to our citizenry being run through propaganda mills that teach "what" to think instead of "how" to think.
We have a giant portion of our society (Liberals) who believe that going further into debt = "paying your bills". They also believe that it's wise for the biggest debtor in the history of Earth to "invest" even more of our money.
Common sense, logic and reason would tell anyone that those beliefs are fricking insane, but Liberals have been told to "think" those are facts for their entire lives.
On top of that, they've been told they are "special" for their entire lives. So, it should come as no surprise that we end up w/ a society of ego-maniacal economic illiterates who end up electing the biggest ego-maniacal economic illiterate of them all....Obama.

Sure. It is why people end their comments with hack, moron, idiot, etc.
It appeals to the emotions rather than logic.
He who yells the loudest is right.

Referring to libertarians as "incredibly backwards" is either an emotional statement on your part or an attempt to elicit an emotional response from a community which considers itself heavily libertarian.
Emotional arguments are fun though. It is why trolling is such a popular online sport.
