A Hypo Dermic Lateral of 38 is fine. Just watch it doesn't go into the negative.

Why don't you ask, you know, like a real doctor?

It is low. You want to get it up to at least 60 if possible. Just a few dietary changes and a decent exercise routine can make a huge difference.

I've been wondering the same thing. My HDL is low also.
Anybody know of negative health effects associated with a low HDL or is it just not ideal?

You can post on td from a meeting at work? And it's a question about your cholesterol? Nice job.

You need to have some cholesterol. Below 100 is not good. It is a building block of hormones. You need some.

If the meeting is big enough, usually everything that gets discussed won't pertain to you.
Why do you folks care so much what this guy is doing? He just asked a question

HDLs (good cholesterol) are generally thought to help keep LDLs (bad cholesterol) in check.
A low HDL is not neccessarily harmful in and of itself, but it suggests a generally poor diet and/or activity level. Ideally, you want to get that number up to above 50 and preferably 60+ to prevent the development of heart and/or artery disease. This is especially true if you have other risk factors for heart disease.

Low HDL isn't necessarily bad. It's just that high HDL (>50) is protective against heart disease.

Yep

your ratio is still good so not immediate concern. Like others have said, you really want that number >50.
Mine over a period of years held consistent at 111-140 total with 58-62 HDL.
In the end, its all genetics.

Behavior is a very strong modifier of HDL levels. Work out (30+ minutes of physical activity a day, 4+ days/week), drink 2 glasses of Pinot Noir a day if you're a male, one glass of Pinot Noir a day if you're a female. It's definitely not all genetics.
