In terms of the sport's popularity and growth.

This years's attention and coverage of the USMNT and the entire WC is many times what it was four years ago, much less 8 or 12.

It's nice to sit back and see the rest of the country see the beauty in this game.

I remember Cowherd four years ago saying ESPN did a study that revealed soccer was the no. 2 sport among males 12-20 and that ESPN was investing accordingly.

I'm glad they have. Friends of mine who didn't even watch a minute in 2010 are fired up about this team. They've embraced it.
American Outlaws is a hug part of it. The I Believe stuff, people are eating that up.

Regardless, it's fun to be a part of.

Except they let their rights to pretty much all soccer go?

The CL and WC moving to Fox will set soccer back many years.

20 years ago, I was a college student with a great interest in sports. I watched the World Cup because hey, why not?

I fell in love with the game and gradually learned more and more about the game.

4 years ago (16 years after the 94 WC) I talked my way into my first professional coaching job.

Now I am a high school soccer coach - and a darned good one at that - without every truly playing the game. But you don't need to have first been a horse to become a jockey, right?

My hope is that the coverage and popularity of soccer will coincide with a transcendent performance by the USMNT and continue to draw more and more athletes AND coaches into the sport, which will only make us grow and become more rich as a soccer nation!
