this is unrelated to posting scores in the thread title and unavoidable.

those types of threads come with the territory of major sporting events.

Actually, the US-Algeria match was the only real issue with it in soccer board history (and that just because of the absolute craziness and relief of the ending). We'd like to keep it that way.

But, if the morons have to have something:

spoiler threads for US matches are ok, not for other matches

but an admin has said it is ok and if you don't want the spoilers, avoid the board.

if the behavior is allowed by the people in charge, why should posters meet you in the middle to appease you and the few others who are bothered by this?

Read SFP's 3 posts on page 3.

And the "few others" are 99.9% of soccer board regulars.

And read my post on Page 4.

There are few regulars and now the Soccer board is attracting many people who don't regularly post there you guys want to contain all discussion in three threads a day. It is unrealistic.

The soccer board regulars want people to embrace Soccer but at the same time the pretentious, we are better than you attitude turns people away.

Keep in mind the Soccer board was started at the beginning of the last World Cup to give people a place to discuss the event without completely cluttering up the More Sports Board.

As an example, requesting for threads discussing the #1 seed being eliminated or Dempsey's goal should be and will be allowed before all of the "Soccer Board regulars" have the ability to watch the match on a delay.

It really just sounds like y'all should lighten up on the restrictions during the World Cup.

Things will be back to normal after, and hopefully you will have picked up a few new soccer fans.

Look at the Croatia-Cameroon match thread last night. It is an example of everything good on the board. We had discussions on favorite players, flares, historical problems relating to Cameroon' FA, what is and isn't a red card, wtf Song, etc. And it had the score, lineups, channel, and time in the OP where if someone NEEDED to know something like that, they could check the first post of the thread.

Are you really trying to compare a Croatia-Cameroon match to a US match? Or a Spain-Chile?

You just have to accept that this is the biggest sporting event in the world for your sport and that if you haven't seen a game yet, you may risk spoiling it by going on the board.

No one is trying to ruin your board, that's what happens when you have an event of this magnitude. Stop being so fricking paranoid.

Who will then post spoilers and say "Fred says we can"

And that will be stopped if it happens.

If you guys don't want the scores in the thread I have no problem with that. But we are not going to stop people from having an open discussion about a match in progress or one that has just completed.

Or how about this: once the WC fervor dies down, inform them how things work around there?

Mal said it best in Firefly: "Why you still arguing what's already been decided?"

As far as I know, the soccer board's little rulebook is not listed in the TD guidelines.

pretty sure posting about a game within the game thread is part of the board's rules

that's actually not true

we want 3 game threads, which allows all sorts of other threads on non-game topics to be discussed

cluttering it up with non-soccer fans who were being blatantly obtuse about soccer, which this thread is a progeny of

this just re-opens the door to all of that drama the WC (and then soccer) board was created to avoid

i don't think we want fans who will disrupt the board sticking around after the WC

not only is the display posted in pretty much EVERY game thread, it's in the Survival Guide

FIRST frickING RULE

quote:

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT OF THE SOCCER BOARD

No scores in thread titles. None. Whatsoever. It doesn't matter what time of day the match is being played. The founders and veterans have etched this in stone. Don't ever put a score in the thread title. At all. Ever. Period. End of discussion.

We're not talking about scores in the title.

My only question is, if scores are allowed in the title for World Cup only, what happens in 4 years when it's in Russia? Most people will no be watching that live. Would the "no scores in the title" be suspended then just because its a World Cup? Because people who watch it only for the World Cup are going to expect that again.
