Going to be in DC for a few days later this summer. We are actually staying in Virginia and we are looking for the best possible way to get into the city. We have heard taking the metro is a good idea. Should we just park at one of the stations outside of the DC or should we park somewhere in DC and just take the subway everywhere throughout the day?

Stay at a hotel w/in walking distance of a Metro Stop.

Most tourists want to visit the Smithsonians and the White House and monument areas. What I do is park in the Reagan building. Close to where you want to be and only $20. Also secure (bring your id). Once in dc you can metro to further places.

That's what we did. Stayed at a hotel in Alexandria and walked 5 minutes to the metro. We never used the car during our stay. You can't beat it.

Don't drive your car into DC.
