I use freezer ziplock bags and a straw to suck the air out. Zip in both edges and stick straw through remaining hole and suck. Zip hole as straw is removed. Works every time. Very reliable.

What about sucking blood out of the bag? I am usually vacuuming fish or meat. Seems like you would get some of that fluid in there unless you are very careful.
I have the cheaper cabela's version and it has worked well so far.
