Well the Knicks and the Celtics are the only teams that have been there since day 1 of the NBA and have stayed in the same city since then.
Not saying they are a powerhouse with a rich tradition of winning, but I don't there's anything wrong with calling the Knicks 'historic'.

I agree....coincidentally, I was born in Providence, RI - The Providence Steamrollers were one of the original NBA franchies. My HS basketball coach (Andy Tonkovich) was the #1 overall pick by the Steamrollers and his son played at LSU in the early 70's.
