BTW they also do job searches.. My great HR dept once provided a resume from a Valet Attendant (only job) for a Senior Oracle DBA.

HR is really the most useless dept in a organization created by women and lawyers

That's good, but it's really up to you to stay in compliance.

A job in HR is the worst job you can have in business.

Do you like learning about labor laws and making sure your company complies with these laws. You're basically a full time paper pusher. Have fun with that.

Yep. I have a seething hatred for HR. IMO it's a brainless profession created by the government.

Most of them do not do that.

Why does this need a degree again?
Good question.

You do need someone that is competent and gives a shite. Companies need to pay more attention to what happens in HR. With the new healthcare law the Government is going to be up in your companies business more than ever.

Oh, and another thing. If you work in Oil and Gas there's this amazing web platform called ISNetworld that O&G operators use to make sure all their vendors comply with their HSE policies. It's pure tedium.

I would rather dig ditches and pound 200 lb trailer trash crack heads than work in HR.

Film...I'm sorry but what the hell were you thinking?

I wanted to be a director or writer. But industry is too competitive. I might be blacklisted since no one will hire me( or reply to my emails). How much could a person in HR make?

HR is already going the way of automation.

Talent acquisition and compensation and benefits design are about the only value-added functions of HR and those will be superfluous to large organizations as big data is leveraged and analytical capability grows.

Linkedin will remove much of the need for talent acquisition labor. Those will good analytical and technical skills will be well positioned to reshape HR.

Is this a good career field. Salary wise

I think this is entirely dependent upon the industry and size of the company in which you do HR. Also depends on what you consider a "good" salary.
