frick that. He doesn't owe anything to anyone. Dude made his money and GTFO before Hollywood destroyed him. Good for him.

I'd have a tough time looking at my friends, the ones who got me to the point where I could command fifty million

I thought Chappelle was from Washington DC?
He was born there...but spent a lot of his childhood in Ohio. I think his parents divorced and one lived in the DC area and the other in Ohio. So he probably spent a lot of time in both.

Destroyed him? America is an absurd alternate reality.

You think he did that show on his own?
That was a massive group effort, and many of the stars were his friends. These shows have huge staffs. His fricking standup routine did not command fifty million, Clayton Bigsby, Rick James, et al., did.

Well that's, like, your opinion, man.
If he doesn't want it who are you to say he's wrong?

Amazing how memorable that show was for just running two seasons ten years ago

The racial shite can get pretty heavy on that show and is Dave felt uncomfortable about it then he has every right to walk away.

That big of a deal to you huh? Wow. I don't understand why others are consumed with what other people do and don't do.

Seems like just another guy around town. Doesn't mind people saying hi but I guess he gets pissed if people freak out.

I'm not just speaking of him, I am primarily referring to the guys that had huge hands in making that show what it was. At some point, people need to view the world beyond their own circumstances and realize when they have a serious opportunity to propel a group of people into better futures.
Would you be able to look at your friends in a run like that and say "sorry, guys, I already got mine and I'm not letting The Man dictate my work." I'm going to Ohio.

First off, go frick yourself. This is a message board, where people post messages and discuss topics of interest, often with opinions. Perhaps I should have let this thread die after the first dozen references to twelve year old skits.
I don't really give a flying frick what DC does. I'm merely stating his choices were explicitly self-serving and I'm confident he would be singing a different tune if he wasn't the star.

How about, "guys, if I keep this up I'm going to have a real mental breakdown and potentially harm myself or others."
Your assertion that Hollywood can't destroy one's psyche is laughable. It's not enough for you that he helped give those working on the show an opportunity to get their foot in the door (which he didn't have to btw). If those working on the show had enough talent to make it in the entertainment business with the show, they would be fine without it on their own merit. For instance, Bill Burr, Charlie Murphy, and Donell Rawlins are quite successful stand-ups now on their own

His shows and skits are still funnier than everything out today.

What would you say is more damaging to the psyche, doing what you're told for millions, even though you feel intrinsically unrewarded, or doing what you're told for pennies, even though you feel gripping desperation and helplessness? The latter of the two is the theme song for most of the global population.
Life is hard for the vast majority of people, some lose perspective.
Much was left on the table.

Kim and Kanye's relationship is crying for a Chappelle skit.
