Why? That's more comforting - knowing they're there and that they always have been. And you know what? 99.9% of the time...nothing happens. They don't want to eat you.

pretty sure nobody would go willingly swim in a pond if there's a gator hanging out at the bottom even if he's "always been there and haven't hurt no one" 99.9 % of the time
