Doing some back bay fishing, possibly off shore if the seas arent to bad. Give me some good reasons, bad reasons. And how hard is it to navigate in and around Destin. Watched Bill Dance smoke some reds by the bridge between Ft.Walton and Destin on tv. Thanks for the imput. Oh its a 20 footer with a 115.

I saw that. Is that the island between FW and Destin?

No its not an actual island but a big as sand bar about knee deep at the highest just north of the bridge leading into Destin from Okaloosa island. 100s of boats anchor there and it is a shite show party
Just Google it
It's a blast

3 day license is cheap. You can catch reds, specks and flounder in the Santa Rosa Sound just south of Navarre. Grass flats there that I yak fish when I visit my parents.

Yea thats were I thought it was. Seems like fun. Bringing several kis with us and would think they would enjoy some boat rides and the grown ups do some fishing. Where is a good landing with bait u would recommend. Been reading up in Fl.Sportsman on the bite and such. Just wondering if it would justify dragging it 10 hrs. there and back.

It's probably not worth dragging a boat 10 hours one way IMO

make sure you have a place to park boat and trailer

Its not quite 10, takes us that long with a few stops, lunch, gas, bathroom. Staying at a house, so I don't think parking would be an issue.

10 hr haul plus finding a spot to store the boat is rough. I would jut rent a boat for a day if you want to go out once.

I am glad this discussion came up. I am planning to bring my boat to Ft. Walton the week of July 26 to do a little fishing and taking the family out for tubing or going to crab island. My biggest concern is where to park the boat. The condo we are staying at said we can park it at the hotel next door for free. We called the hotel and they said they don't have assigned parking,s o it won't be an issue.

I guess that depends on how long you will be staying, how many days you will be boating, and whether or not you have a convenient place to launch the boat and park the trailer.
If you will be there more than 3 or 4 days and are staying at a place with a boat slip, it would be really nice to have your own boat.
If not, I would just rent one.
You should do a cost/benefit analysis on that.

Really thinking about doing the beach thing in the morning and the fishing thing in the afternoon, at least 3 or 4 of the days we're there. Or vice a versa, so gonna use the boat alot, not just one day. The drives mostly Interstate, so really not a hard drive and like I said not a big boat. Looked at renting, kinda of pricey. Seems like a no brainer, but it will be the first time, so wanted some local knowledge before I pulled the trigger. Also the date is in late July.

That is our plan as well. We rented a boat last year and I wasn't happy with it. Maybe because it was a pontoon boat. I plan to fish the mornings and hit the beach later in the day. Take the family back out in the evening. There is a free boat launch by Legendary Marine in Ft. Walton.

The last time we vacationed there we went to shell island in Panama City. Took the charter. Were going to rent a pontoon, but with bringing my own, will save there also.

That is exactly where we were last year. We stayed in PCB and rented the pontoon to check out shell island. The pontoon had a 50 on it and went so slow. It was frustrating when I am used to my 24' bay boat with a 300 on it. Plus, last year the waters were so calm that I kept thinking I should have brought my boat.
