Looking for some suggestions on places to rent a house on the water

Planning a trip for the beginning of August and we would like to rent a house on the water for about 5 days. I have been looking heavily at Bay St. Louis because I like the layout and the houses are affordable. We found 2 houses we really liked but they did not have the "book it now" feature (I have been using VRBO)and the owners have not been very responsive to phone calls or emails, its weird its like they don't want to rent out. The rest of the houses seemed to be tucked away on the small canals. I was wondering if anyone could suggest places similar to Bay St. Louis, also need a dock/pier to keep my bay boat tied up. Trip is for 8-10 people.
Also, would there be more places in Bay St. Louis for rent if I were to call a realtor? I have even considered driving there for the day and driving around to see if I could find any for rent.

How far are you willing to drive? I rent houses in the keys quite a bit. They also have docks at many of them.

I'm in BR. How far of a drive is that? I would be willing to make the drive if the prices aren't too expensive.

It's a good 16 hour drive. I've never rented anything as big as what you're wanting, but I've rented houses on Little Torch Key for around 650/week. I'm sure you can be under 2,000 for what you're looking for. I also use VRBO or Homeaway to find mine.
ETA: If you're going to look around there, Little Torch Key or Ramrod Key are much less expensive than Key West and only a short drive away.

Oh damn that's a haul haha. I'm sure it's pretty there though.

Crystal Clear water. I love it there. You can also leave the house and be catching fish within minutes.

Make the drive in one shot or make night stops? How long do you usually stay?
Anyone else with anything a little closer haha

I usually make the drive in 1 shot and rent for a week. But, I used to travel a lot for work and would wait and leave the last minute possible and have to drive it all in one shot.
I know there are tons of rental houses all along the coast from Waveland, MS to the Keys. Destin/Ft. Walton area will have some. Clearwater area will have some. Dauphin Island has a few I believe. However, I've not stayed in any of these places, so I have no idea about the price.
