One senior military source says many at Pentagon advised the President not to make the trade of Taliban prisoners for Bergdahl.

9:55 AM - 4 Jun 2014

The reason senior DOD officials opposed the trade is this-- one says it is “like handing over 5 4-star generals of the Taliban.”

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) was on the committee which reviewed a possible trade of prisoners for Bergdahl a few years back.

The classified file given to the Senators about Bergdahl did NOT include the information about the note Berghdal left to his unit about his intent to desert. Chambliss found out about this from the NY Times article after his release.

It sounds like either the Army was trying to cover up his desertion or the Obama administration pulled that piece of info from the file. And the latter seems VERY likely given that they were gung-ho to make the exchange.

A soldier who participated in the search for Bergdahl has done an interview with Fox News where he talked about how the military instructed them to lie about the circumstances behind Bergdahl's capture.

He also indicated that the quality of ambushes by the enemy increased after Bergdahl's capture, which he feels was due to the intel they got out of him.

I'm hitting my limit on the number of characters allowed in my OP. Has anything been debunked that can be deleted? I will continue the list in a post below and add a link to it at the bottom of the OP thanks!

That's (the character limit problem) what happened to me in my Benghazi information thread a while back. I ended up deleting it and replacing it using a different "strategy", and it worked out even better. I've let it go dormant while other issues dominate the news, but it will be re-activated once the committee's work begins. My intentions for the original thread that I voluntarily deleted were very similar to the intent you have here - to keep a "clean" thread.

I tip my hat to you, solid effort on your part.

Bergdahl has turned into Sgt. William "The Old Shoe" Schumann for this administration.

If he dies, maybe he'll be given a posthumous transfer to the 303.

WaPo - Afghani villagers who found Bergdahl say he seemed to be "deliberately heading for Taliban strongholds."

They thought he might have been high as a kite from smoking hash because "Why would an American want to find the Taliban?"

For her age, she's fairly attractive. A hip haircut may even make her borderline hot!

How did she end up with her weirdo husband?

Middle age OT rating?

UPDATE: Bergdahl's mother looks like Mary McConnell - actress (Dances with Wolves)

Because the DoD couldn't possibly know how bad they are but only the Dems in Congress could.

SIAP:

quote:

From a White House press briefing by Press Secretary Jay Carney, June 21, 2013:

Q: Jay, going to back to Afghanistan, the Taliban has offered to release Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for five members of the Taliban who are currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. Is this something that the administration is considering? Is this something that the President would agree to?

Mr. Carney: What I can tell you is that the main dialogue that we support is the dialogue between Afghans—between the Taliban and the Afghan government. However, there are some issues that we would like to discuss with the Taliban directly, and this includes the safe return of Sergeant Bergdahl, who has been gone for far too long.

We continue to call for and work toward his safe and immediate release. We cannot discuss all the details of our efforts, but there should be no doubt that on a daily basis we are continuing to pursue—using our military, intelligence and diplomatic tools—the effort to return him home safely. And our hearts are with the Bergdahl family.

With regard to the transfer of Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay, we have made—the United States has not made the decision to do that, though we do expect the Taliban to raise this issue in our discussion, if and when those discussions happen.

As we have long said, however, we would not make any decisions about transfer of any detainees without consulting with Congress and without doing so in accordance with U.S. law.

My inside sources indicate Obama was secretly selling arms to Iran in exchange for soldiers' freedom from captivity.

No link but how dare he???? We don't negotiate with terrorists!

Apparently, Hagel announced the swap/release before soldiers in Afghanistan and the response was dead silence.

I suspect that the video of that little fiasco will never see the light of day.
