Why no attempt to trade for the Marine in Mexico?

We traded for Bergdahl, he has been accused of abandoning his post...What about the Marine that accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up in Mexico? I understand he did serve our country honorably. I would be arrested in this scenario, I keep loaded weapons in my vehicle all the time.
Why no outrage?

Pretty sure you don't take a wrong turn into MX do you? I'm from here as well and have never "ended up" in MX

I did. My first job in Texas was a district HR manager position over all locations in TX for a large chain. I often flew into Brownsville and then drove to other locations and accidentally crossed over once.

Trade for what? Enchiladas?

That's just it. Mexico doesn't have any citizens in Gitmo that need to be removed so it can be closed.
I wonder if these guys would have been exchanged if they were allowed to be moved to prisons within the US and Gitmo was closed.

Well hell, this one should be pretty cut and dry. Give Mexico a few leaders of the Mexican Mafia and we get our Marine back. I should run for office.

One committed the unforgivable sin of owning a firearm.
The other is a national hero who stuck to his convictions and left his post.

Please explain how you accidentally end up in another country. I lived in sh*tty Brownsville and never once even remotely accidentally crossed in. There is signage EVERYWHERE, not to mention fences clearly indicating it's a border crossing.
I'm assuming you are speaking of several years ago when the border was more or less far less restrictive (and you could enter sans passport) correct?

Eric Holder is working on getting enough guns together to make the trade.

FoxNews driving this story is insane.
I agree, State should get this guy out. But nobody knows for sure why he went to Mexico. He broke the laws of another country. His fault.

He was south of San Diego, inside of the U.S., near Tijuana border.

I'm ignorant of the details of this story but was he working as a Marine for the US gov't when he went into Mexico or was he a US citizen who went into Mexico but just so happened to be a Marine?
Big difference.

He got in the wrong lane to turn around. Nobody is disputing what happened and it was an obvious mistake.

Oh, yes. This was more than 10 years ago and I had just moved to Houston from Baton Rouge 2 weeks before. I didn't even know how to get from the outer lane of the loop to the inner so I could exit. Went around the damn thing twice before calling my boss. He told me to hit the horn, punch the gas and turn the wheel. Still follow that advice to this day.
I was driving from Brownsville heading west. Don't even know where I was. Was listening to a book on CD and tuned out, I guess. When I turned back in, I had definitely crossed over without even realizing it. Panicked and called my mom asking her to mapquest where I was based on the last road I remembered the name off. My mom said the road was a dead end and I must have turned off somewhere. I knew I hadn't... that's when I realized that mapquest ended at the US border

That is pretty funny. Yea back then it was pretty porous you could just walk across with no issues.
Mapquest ended at the US border?
Mapquest ended at the US border?

Yeah. It's funny now. I was pretty scared when it happened. That's when all those stories were circulating about American women being kidnapped for ransom or being robbed in Matamoros and here I was driving through a very seedy part of Mexico in a rented minivan wearing my best suit and jewelry.
The office laughed about that for years.
And it's crazy but mapquest did just end at the border. I pulled it up when I got to an office to make sure my mother wasn't a total idiot.

Mexico probably is. Listen, I believe the guy, but we're dealing with one account. I believe his account, but nonetheless, there isn't a lot to dispute. He drove into Mexico with weapons, and apparently tried to escape subsequently. He'll eventually be freed.
