The only movie I really had a problem with the effects was AOTC. It felt like it took place in a cartoon. The best way to film these is use a actual costumed character and touch it up ala Where the Wild Things Are.

The pod race scene was the best part of the movie. Almost all cgi
That was second best to me behind the DM/QGJ and DM/OWK fight scene.
Fun fact: The overhead crowd shots for the pod races were all practical effects.

Ehh, as long as the creatures don't look like stiff puppets. I'm glad they cgied Yoda. Made him less stiff and more life-like. Also allowed them to show off how bad arse he really was.

And also went against his established character.

no it didn't. If anything it further his character and established him as more than just a wise sage.

Yes, it did. Where in Episodes V, VI, and I did you get the impression that Yoda was anything more than a wise old sage?

Yeah people who criticize the amount of CGI in TPM are just silly to me. There were many things to criticize in that movie, but the amount of CGI just holds no water to me.
That CGI was garbage. Too much CGI takes me out of a movie faster than the terrible dialog and annoying characters. To me, the pinnacle of special effects was RoTJ.

So you are saying because he was just an old wise sage in the OT that means that was all he ever was? He was old, he was hanging on by a little more in a thread in TNH and ESB. It expanded his character. It DEVELOPED his character. It showed another side of him. That's a universal positive for movies and tv. I don't think I've ever heard about anyone complain about good character development until now.

Well see to me, I'd rather have good cgi than terrible looking practical effects. Lots of effects from the 70's and 80's just look horrible now. Seriously go back and they look terrible.
Granted, terrible looking cgi does take me out as well, but people complaining about CGI in modern movies are just laughable to me. You are complaining about something fake in a fake movie. Really?

This is just laughable and insane, but hey that's your opinion.

those were like 20 years after the prequels and he's like 800 years old or something. hell of a drop off

shite happens. But no one can sit there with a straight face and tell me that Yoda's change in Episode 2 and Episode 3 wasn't for the better and by a good margin. I can get behind the prequels not being as good as the OT, hell, I can understand most of the criticisms even if I don't agree with it, but showing Yoda as a badass and throwing down with Dooku and the Emperor was not a bad decision by the prequels. It was one of few easy positives - along with the pod racing, Darth Maul, the ROTS opening space battles, among others.
It seems like everyone is so consumed by the negatives of the prequels, that they either fail to recognize the positives or refuse to acknowledge their existence.

I can't believe people are still paying to watch this garbage.

You are still posting in star wars tbreadz. Who is more foolish? The fool? Or the fool who follows him?
Posted on 6/2/14 at 10:53 pm to Tiger Ryno
I'm just surpised they are still making these movies, all everybody does is complain about how terrible they are.

Nerds don't have lives or girlfriends so they have time to complain about things. And as much as they complain about them, they still pay to go see them 2-3 times. There's a lot of money to be made by these movies and contrary to popular belief, not everyone hated them. For me, ROTS was the third best Star Wars movie.

Not once does Yoda train Luke in the art of a lightsaber. Not once. In fact, the one time Luke uses his lightsaber on Dagobah it produces a negative result.
Sure, Yoda's lightsaber duels with Dooku and the Emperor were badass and were highlights of the prequel trilogy, but that still doesn't change the fact that they went against everything we had come to know about Yoda.

When you take into account Yoda's life span, 20 years between the films is about the same difference in a 75 and 85 year old man. At that age, Yoda should not have been super agile.
