Was looking for a new series to start. Just bought Mistborn based on this thread alone.

Like a few of us have said, don't expect a GoT quality storyline, but soak in the magic system. The magic system more than makes up for an average story, which in my opinion makes the story special!

Yep. If you're looking for A Song of Ice and Fire levels of complexity, try the Malazan Books of the Fallen and the Malazan Empire books.

The Accursed Kings is a historical fiction series about the 12th and 13th century French monarchy. GRRM read the first six when they were first translated and published in the 60s. They didn't translate the seventh/last one so GRRM never finished reading the series, (so quit your bitching people and you know who you are) but he said that Accursed Kings was a major influence on him and because of this statement, so now they are reissuing and translating all of them. Only three have been reissued so far and it seems that they're coming out every six months. I was going to go ahead and start but when I found out that B&N didn't have except in eBook (only other way to get a hard copy is to order it online and I was already at B&N when I learned this) I decided to just wait and let a compilation come out when they're done with the reissue. It will probably be cheaper and I won't be sitting in book limbo.

Good, i'm not looking for something that deep with so much to keep up with. This sounds like exactly what i'm looking for.

Didn't know that! That is incredibly interesting. I will start them when I'm done with the Mistborn series.

Yet another series GRRM is never going to finish.

Abercrombie is freaking awesome, I must say.
yeah, all of his books are good. I actually enjoyed reading his stuff more than GOT

I've never heard of Abercrombie (the writer).
The clothes are shitty, but I assume we're not talking about fratboy clothes.

Abercrombie is definitely awesome. If I was to recommend a series to GOT fans it would be Abercrombie.

Mistborn is a bit overrated on here. It is not a well written series IMO, and you can tell that Sanderson is starting to find his footing.
The magic system is EXCELLENT and well put together. Beyond that, I don't find it to be the best series, personally.
Agreed. Mistborn is nothing special outside of the magic system to me. Paper thin characters and an average plot. That being said, Alloy of Law is pretty great as is Warbreaker. I've only read the first of Stormlight so far but it was very good as well. Sanderson has come a long way since writing Mistborn, particularly with his characters.

Yeah, Joe Abercrombie, British writer. I'm probably more a fan of him than Martin at the moment just because he's more consistently great and gets his books out in a timely fashion.

Brent Weeks' Night Angel series is very good also like his new Lightbringer series

I'll also throw Anthony Ryan's Blood Song in the mix. It's the first book in (another) planned trilogy but I found it pretty entertaining. Similar to Rothfuss in it's structure.

Just started. Halfway through the first book.
It's pretty good.
I like the Allomancy story, I like the characters I guess I have questions, but feel the book will answer them though.
