Really?

Really! I was the asst. mgr. of the Bengal at that time, and typically closed the place down/set up for the next day all the time. We were lucky to get out of the place by 3:30, which was about the time Sans Souci was just cranking up.

In a parallel universe:

An optometrist successfully treats the pilot's hypertension---> No Plane crash---> Butterfly effect ensues---> Jarrett Lee throws 5 TDs vs Alabama for the BCSNCG Title. T'Bob elected Governor.

Here are the NTSB reports:

I had always thought Croce's pilot had a heart attack and just killed over. The Skynrd crash was a real tragedy. Running out of fuel is inexcusable. Incompetence cost them their lives and one of the greatest bands ever.

777Tiger did you learn to fly in BR? We may have crossed paths at some point. My email is diamondback757@gmail.com

"Cactus" is the callsign.

I learned to fly in BR with Eddie Duffard. Don't know if you knew him but he was one of a kind. A whole thread could be made for that guy. BTW He taught barry seal to fly (saw that thread recently).

Worked in Lafayette for a while in the mid 90's and moved on.

My first job was instructing at Lafayette Aero. Then a king air job that moved me to Houston. Send me an email. Aviation always seems to be a small world.

Didn't know him. I knew the Vidrines and most of the people that frequented LFT Aero mid 90's.

What runway did Croce's plane depart from? Unless the area has changed significantly RWY 16/34 (now 17/35) had fairly clear pasture/fields at both ends...RWY 7/25 has rising terrain and significant trees beyond the western end of that runway. Went to daycare at the church across the Bypass from the end of 7/25...

I celebrate the man's entire catalog... "Operator" is the song most people know, but Roller Derby Queen, and I've Got a Name were the best two songs on that album.

I would argue that a lot more people know Bad, Bad Leroy Brown followed by Time in a Bottle but Operator is still a good one!

I don't know. This was a bit before my time. I doubt it mattered what runway if the guy had a coronary and slumped over on the yoke.

I was 14 when he died. Very sad, was a huge fan. Gotta give a shout out to Working at the car wash blues.

Croce's widow Ingrid has a bar/restaurant in San Diego that features a lot of JC stuff... Croce's
