If you own a home and pay a shite ton in taxes you better be near a good school or you chose poorly. High taxes and high rating for school then go with public. If you are scared and have the scratch then go private.
My wife is a nurse at a private school. I find it strange. The teachers are not paid as well as public so many of them are inexperienced. You trade some salary to have better students and more engaged parents. But again they are leaving some money on the table.

if that little bit of money matters you shouldn't be in the profession...

that may be true in some instances, but I know or have known of many highly qualified, experienced teachers that teach at private schools for other reasons, such as religious beliefs, they don't want to put up with the nonsense that goes on in public schools, or they have kids that attend the private schools that get free or discounted tuition, etc.
ETA: and in most instances, their income contribution to the household budget isn't much of a factor anyway

SO many public school teachers I know send their kids to private schools. That tells me all I need to know.
