I have made a couple of trips with my uncle. We always seemed to do pretty well on the east side.

Bayou bienvnue in Choctaw translates to no fish

What about taking bayou Bienvenue (sp) out to MRGO, going around the barrier and fishing that marsh east of the mrgo up in that Western corner of Borgne

I head west from Chef Pass and hit the Bienvenue area sometimes. I've done really well there on reds, trout, etc. and I've been skunked. It's fishing.
I've never tried west of Paris Rd.

Noted I'm getting a boat on Friday and have just been re-examining some areas that I commonly pass by

That area is best for fishing in the fall/ winter. Now you can go way out in lake borgne and fish the rigs this time of year and find some fish.

Only on the calmest of days and you will have to watch the weather.
The good news is, there is plenty of marsh to fish when its windy.
ETA: Lake Borgne can be a bitch when the wind kicks up and she can turn that way fast. I go in a 15' Vhull when it is nice and calm; but a couple of our return trips were kind of scary. Be very careful out there.

The one time I needed coast guard assistance was in Lake Borgne... near alligator point.. on our way in duck hunting hit and got tangled with a submerged gill net......
seas built to deadly fairly quick that morning too..
