Physical requirements for drag racing and is it a sport

So I hear arguments for NASCAR that it requires physical and mental dexterity and stamina to endure the race and therefore it should be classified as a sport (add to that it is a competition).
What about strip drag racing? I just saw some of this in ESPN and it got me thinking. What skill is involved here other than some good reflexes and hand eye coordination? shite, cup stacking is harder than that.

nascar is definitely a sport and would say it is as demanding on the body than the big 3 sports are

Thats not a qualification for a an activity to be a sport imo.
And lol that NASCAR is more demanding on the body than the NFL
ETA: oh, you're the guy that said Ricky Rubio was a top 5 PG, nvm

Drag racing definitely requires skill and work if you want to be good. However it is by no means a sport and neither is NASCAR.

Sport? No.
Competition? Yes. This puts car racing (drag racing, NASCAR, Indy car, etc.) into the same category as chess, checkers, poker, and other such things.

but racing is definitely a sport.
Not enough physical exertion required

Definition of sport is very broad. I think it fits.

i would say its pretty physically demanding...you have to be at top physical form to race at 190 miles an hour for 3 hours

They are both sports, but the participants are NOT athletes.

ath·lete noun \'ath-?let, ÷'a-th?-?let\
: a person who is trained in or good at sports, games, or exercises that require physical skill and strength

I kinda like that.
ETA: obviously doesn't fit with the dictionary definition but it works in my mind

well if you took lebron james and put him in a race car he would fail miserably and the same goes if you took jeff gordon and put him on the basketball court...both are great at their respective sport

Auto racing DOES require physicality in order to participate.
However, it does not take an athlete to excel in the sport.
Therefore, it is a sport, but the participants are not athletes.
Just like golf.

If a player can't improve much at all from improving his physical gifts, then that sport does not require athletes. You have to be skilled... but not athletic.
That's my own definition.
