Is LA Dunes in Forest Hill, LA still open? I read that it had closed.

They've closed, and have been for over a year now. There's been talks/attempts to get it reopened but I don't see it happening any time soon. Combination of the property owners wanting too much to lease the land and the insurance being high. We used to go about once a month when it was open.

Sad to hear........I used to have a blast at that place.
Back when you could ride all day/night and helmets were optional.

Ya it's closed but you can still ride out there if you really want to for free

I rode there from 07 until it shut down and that's how it always was, many good times. Towards the end people took it for granted a bit and just assumed someone else would pick up the lease. Considering the next closest sand dune riding area is in Oklahoma it was nice to have a little patch of sand an hour from home.

Last time I rode was about 04 probably.
One of my buddies got airlifted out of there. Had to much to drink and dumped his banshee drag racing.

I had always heard about a trail that connected LA Dunes to Kisatchie trails but never found it and was told a few times it no longer existed. I wish it would reopen though, the last few trips we fished the lake and picked up a decent stringer of bass from the bank.

I wish it would open back up so the drunken fricktard 4 wheeler trash would quit fricking up Forrest Hill and Cravens.
Rooting out huge mud holes and leaving beer cans all over the trail is gonna get these areas closed for everyone.

Caught a many of bass from the pit pond there. Grew up in Forest Hill and a buddy lived on the east side and we use to fish it all the time. Slip out there at dark and smoke them. And there is a trail to get out there, I've road to it from 112 in camp claiborne. Don't remember much but it comes out at the creek in the back corner seems like.

I think I've meet you a couple times at the Dunes. I recognize your avatar from another site. You have a yellow Z?

When talks started a few months ago about it reopening I started to think about if I could bring the kayak to fish the backside of the lake.
I'm familiar with the trail in the back corner by the creek. You'd cross under a wooden bridge and there was a trail on the other side. I remember it being chained off and full of No Tresspassing signs. A few years back a friend was riding in the creek near there, some guy came out of the woods threatening to call the cops if he crossed that line, which he had no intentions of doing.
