Anyone ever seen a specialist for TMJ?

I have always had it. Normally I'll get that click when yawning, occasions tetanus and may lock on occasion. However, recently, I've experienced pain whenever I bite on food or open my mouth, especially on the right side. Anyone here experienced this to point of seeing someone - what to expect, who to see, etc?

Have you tried your dentist? I talked with mine about similar symptoms and he recommended a night guard a few years back. Still wear it and haven't had any problems since.

I got a referral from my dentist but never called the guy. Mine only bothers me when I take too big a bite out of a loaded burger.

I have actually seen that. I've seen the recent trend if Botox injections just below the ear to reduce the movement of the muscle creating atrophy and resulting in less stress.

Is it muscle or joint pain?

It used to be joint only, however, the expansion of the focus of pain leads me to believe it is now muscular.

My dentist diagnosed me with it, and just molded me for a mouth guard, that I sleep with every night. I would clench my teeth and wake up with bad headaches from it.
The popping you will live with forever. The dentist and doctor both told me there is no surgery for it, that has been proven effective, they have experimental treatments, but nothing really works yet. Get the mouth guard though, it helps if you get pain in the jaw and headaches from it

I had the muscular kind where your jaw aches bc it never gets relaxed, I went to several specialist and ended up at this random dentist that made me a retainer that fit right on the tip of my teeth just enough to rest my jaw, used a month and never had to use it again, now I just know how to hold my jaw to relax it bc if it

Yes the dentist did mine. Will mix up a powder and make a pudding looking substance, and coat a mouth piece that you will bite your upper teeth onto.
It is really uncomfortable and hard to get into your mouth, if you can't open too wide like myself... once in, it takes maybe two minutes if that to dry. They will either send it off or do it in house, and take a hard mold out of cement or clay or something IDK what it is... from that they will mold a soft plastic, which is your mouth guard.
After I brush my teeth every night and head to bed, I pop it in and it helps out. The first night or few, you will feel weird having it in, just not being use to it, might drool a little and just feel like its uncomfortable, but you get use to it and I actually enjoy it now. After sleeping with the soft one for a few months, if you feel you still have an issue and bite down hard on it at all at night and want to move up, they make a harder one, once you have gotten use to the soft one.

If you have decent medical insurance, check out Sullivan Dental in Saint Francisville. Frank Sullivan is doing some neuromuscular stuff with orthotics that seem to be working. Yes, I said medical, not dental insurance. What he does is covered to a point.
Went the route of Dr. Kidder and his mouthpiece. That worked some, but wearing it only at night didn't offer the relief needed.

Night guard hasn't helped me at all. I'll probably go to a specialist one of these days. It sucks.

The mouth guard made me drool like crazy.

What specifically is this orthotic? When do you wear it?
Is it different from the one Dr Kidder made for you?
